We’re back with the beast from the East… Asia. There’s plenty of action for you here from Chinese Taipei, Guam, Mongolia and the Northern Mariana Islands. If you want to find out how the big boys of the region did, then you can click on the links for China, Japan and South Korea here. You can read last week’s roundup here.
Tatung on top in Taipei
In Chinese Taipei Tatung have taken the lead in the league after beating Tainan City 4-1 on the weekend. Before that they also beat Royal Blues 4-0 in the midweek match. Elsewhere Taipower beat Taicheng 6-1 to go second in the league, but they have two more games played than Tatung. TSU had a great weekend, beating NSTC 8-0.
They couldn’t carry that form into this week however as they drew 2-2 with HangYuen on Wednesday.
Goals galore in tight games in Guam
It has happened, Isla de Ladrones (IDL) has lost a football game, and what a game it was. They were playing Lots of Arts Heat (LOA Heat) on Friday and it was the visitors who took the lead after nine minutes. They extended that lead on the half-hour mark and kept it until half time. Then IDL started the comeback. Two goals in nine minutes meant they were back on level terms after 61 minutes, but not for long. LOA took another two-goal lead as they scored twice in ten minutes, form the 67th to the 77th and went 2-4 up.
Then the game got unreal.
84th minute: IDL pulled one back, 3-4.
85th minute: LOA scored another, 3-5.
87th minute: IDL scored on a penalty, 4-5.
88th minute: IDL equalised, 5-5.
92nd minute: LOA scored the winner, 5-6.
What a final few minutes that game had to offer. The final goal came from a long pass and a run that fooled the entire IDL defence. The striker rounded the keeper, while almost getting mowed down by him, and put the ball in the open net. Unreal scenes.
Right. Over to the other games then. Let me run through them for you. 3-1 was the scoreline when Rovers beat University of Guam Tritons, also that on Friday. The final game from this update was played yesterday, on Wednesday, and LOA Heat continued their great form with another close 4-3 win. They were 3-1 up going into half time but gave it away, again, and only won it in the 89th minute. Does LOA ever play boring games?
Erchim and Anduud fight it out at the top in Mongolia
Its tight aat the top in Mongolia. Erchim and Anduud City are separated by one point after four games. On Friday Erchim beat Deren 5-1, while Anduud beat bottom of the table Gepro 3-0 on Sunday. Elsewhere Arvis lost 8-0 to Khangarid, while Atheltic 220 beat Ulaanbaatar City 4-1.
Hot days in the Northern Mariana Islands
This weekend was extremely hot in the Northern Mariana Islands both in terms of weather and football, with several players suffering from dehydration. MP United are still undefeated after they managed to come back from a 2-0 deficit and tied the game up within the final 20 minutes. Elsewhere Paire beat bottom of the table Kanoa 5-1 and Okadaya were awarded the win, 3-0, over Winners & Pacific after they had to withdraw from the competition entirely due to lack of players.
How about our favourite team then? Well, the girls of the NMI U16 national team beat top of the table KFAS 6-4, giving them their first loss of the season. A very strong performance from the girls who could potentially grab third place from their fifth place seat, as they are tied on points with two other teams, fighting for the spot.
Oh and in case you were wondering, there’s still no news from North Korea about how their league is going.
