Guess who just got back today

Them wild-eyed boys that had been away

Haven’t changed that much to say

But man, I still think them cats are crazy

They were askin’ if you were around

How you was, where you could be found

Told ’em you were livin’ downtown

Drivin’ all the old men crazy

The boys are back in town

That my friends, is Thin Lizzy introducing me.  Exactly as the Irish band state in their absolute banger, we are back today and the boys are very much back in town. There has been the odd article coming out here and there recently and if you haven’t checked out Hanu’s three-part series, you can here (Part One | Part Two | Part Three). With the World Cup climaxing later on today, the gang is getting back together so the articles will be flying out left, right and centre from tomorrow.

We are tweaking things ever so slightly in that our main focus is going to be on four primary leagues. Japan’s J-League, China’s CSL, Vietnam’s V-League & India’s ISL. So, if you are looking for news on the happenings in the Maldives, you’re out luck for the time being, but hey, you could always come and write for us, if you fancy it?

Four League Focus

As much as I’d love to be able to cover every part of Asia on my own, it simply isn’t feasible. Our team has got smaller as well which means it’s not as easy to spread the workload, hence the ‘four league focus’ for the foreseeable. Don’t get me wrong, there will still be pieces about football in different regions and what have you, but it won’t be as frequent as it was. Sorry!

We’ve got an awful lot to catch up on. From a personal perspective, I’ll be bringing you up to speed with what’s been going on in the V-League, two teams per day. It’ll be a right laugh. It will be done in reverse order, culminating in the team that currently sits top of the V-League. Just to give you some understanding of what’s been going on, last night, I was at Ho Chi Minh City vs Da Nang and to say it was eventful would be the understatement of the century.

V-League Makes The Cut

I’m not going to say too much as I’ll cover it in the team reviews, but let’s say that one team was 2-0 down and ended up winning 4-2, a keeper was sent off and the play-acting would’ve made Neymar proud. From week commencing the 23rd of July, I’m going to bring you match reports from the game(s) I’ve covered over the weekend and then a general review of the rest of the action. If you’re worried about reading a generic match report, don’t be – I don’t do generic. Hell, I barely do match reports!

Away from South East Asia for a minute, let’s talk about India, namely the ISL. Steve Coppell has joined ATK which has wound me up a bit because he had something good going at Jamshedpur and it’ll now be the third different side he’s coached in three seasons. Jamshedpur are yet to announce a replacement for Coppell and I have no idea who they are going to turn to. As long as it’s not Ashley Westwood. Don’t get me started on him. What about the others in the ISL?

As Does The ISL

NorthEast United are weird. They haven’t posted on social media since the end of the season which I know isn’t the be all and end all, it’s just weird. Their supporters group wrote a letter to the club trying to find out what was going on. You can read that here:

Bengaluru are Bengaluru, they’re just getting on with it and I think they will be the side to beat once again this season coming. Kerala are making waves, however, I’m going to avoid them for now as I’ve got something up my sleeve for then! Famous last words. FC Goa are steady rather than spectacular for now. For Chennaiyin and the rest, you’ll have to wait and see as I could easily churn out an article with what’s going on in the ISL. Stay tuned for that.

The Four Is Completed By The CSL & J-League

Regarding the other two leagues, I’m not the right person to be speaking to as I have next to nothing to do with them. Obviously, in the J-League, there was the big news that Torres will be joining us which is great exposure for the league! You can read Steve’s transfer round-up on that by clicking this link. CSL, I have no idea, pass.

It feels good to be back! And now that I am back, I’m reigniting an old flame with how I’m ending all my articles.

If I was a betting man and luckily I am, I’d be backing this website to take off. Not sure who will price that up for you, potentially Paddy Power? They love a random one.

Until the next time.
